Howard
Bronstein, Bio
When asked what he does, Howard Bronstein runs 50/50 on
his answer. Half the time he replies, "Map Publisher." The
other half, his answer is "Raft Guide!" These occupy his
professional time in addition to continuing after 15 years
teaching business start-up and business development courses.
Since 1988, he has been the only president of ODT, Inc.,
once a human resource publishing and consulting company that
has transformed into a publisher and innovator in maps with
unique world views. Bronstein has worked hard to keep up
with ODT founder, former boss and long-time partner Bob
Abramms in giving ODT an international presence in the map
world.
Bronstein has written three books, two with Dr. Darrel
Ray on self-directed work teams. Ray was looking for someone
who shares a vision of making organizations more efficient
and effective by giving people control of their work. A
third book. "How To Manage A Winning Team" is still a useful
resource to Bronstein's business class students. Bronstein
has written free-lance articles, taught in public secondary
schools, been a newspaper correspondent and columnist and
knows from his distant past how to mix concrete and what is
in hot dogs!
He lives in a very small town an hour from ODT
headquarters in the hilltowns of western, Massachusetts,
with wife Ellen Baer. He has been known to brag that his
town has half the population of his Newton, MA, high school
graduating class. He retired after more than 20 years as
volunteer firefighter and was a member and chairman of the
Selectboard, the three-member board that manages the
decisions of the direct Town Meeting form of government.
Bronstein explains, "In my forties I was a public official.
Now, in my fifties I'm a river guide...guess which one is
way more fun!"
