Which is bigger, Greenland or China? With the traditional Mercator map Greenland and China look to be the same size but in reality China is almost 4 times larger! In response to such discrepancies, Dr. Arno Peters created an equal area map, a new world map that dramatically improves the accuracy of how we see the Earth. Come in a variety of formats: laminated; paper folded; spring roller mounted, oversize laminated, and synthetic paper oversizeSPECIAL $10 Clearance maps may be available HERE
The equal area Peters Map has attracted more press coverage, both praise and criticism, than any other map in history. It was featured in the hit TV show,The West Wing. Now, for the first time in North America, the Peters Map is available with one more novel, thought-provoking twist...the Pacific Ocean is in the middle. Prices range from $9.95 for folded paper (20.5'' x 32'') to $249 for a 64" wide custom map.
A map that not only shows true size comparisons, but also turns the world upside down to challenge North-South perceptions. Based on the popularity of the Peters concept of equal area, we produced a similar map, the Hobo Dyer Projection, which offers less elongation than the Peters map but more compression at the poles. This is the map that President Jimmy Carter used to display his agency's efforts at his Nobel Peace Prize ceremony in December 2002. Prices range from $6 for 11"x17" to $249 for a 64" wide custom map. For larger quantities, special pricing is available to schools and not-for-profit organizations.

This is the most exciting and beautiful new map we've seen in quite a while. It is a 14-sided polyhedral projection addressing both distortion and partitioning of land masses. The butterfly layout combines legibility and low distortion. This prototype (almost-equal-area) wall map (1996 version) is available now at a special price. The new full-size equal area map is in production (Request notification when the revised map is ready: Email odtstore@odt.org.) Paper, rolled, tubed - 26.5" x 38"
This Raleigh Edition of the Dymaxion (TM) map, first designed in Raleigh, North Carolina, is a vivid color reproduction of the original rendition created by R. Buckminster Fuller in 1954 in his office there. We have reproduced the map exactly as it was first conceived and produced by its creator. Both the land masses and the grayscale shading in the oceans represent mean low annual temperatures. The visionary Fuller designed this map to help us recognize that ''we're all astronauts aboard a little spaceship called Earth.'' Because it can be reconfigured into a variety of patterns, it also communicated the point that "there are many ways to see the world." Prices from $20.
This Raleigh Dymaxion (TM) map is a desktop version at 1/4th of the size of the 22''x34'' full-size version we produced. It is perfect for a student desktop map, as it shows the sizes and shapes of the continents accurately. The paper format can be cut up and folded into the 20-sided polyhedron that Fuller started with. Or this size, when laminated, can make a snappy addition to your breakfast table as an exciting placemat. It's educational, as it has a lengthy explanation printed on the reverse side. The text on the map (being reduced in size) is hard to read, but the desktop version has the same vivid colors of the original. The traditional world map is poorly suited to understanding global relationships in our present era in which these relationships have become increasingly important to all peoples on earth. Traditional and current world maps are mostly centered on the equator, and project the round world as a rectangle or ellipse. This means the world is broken up along the edges, usually in the middle of an ocean (east/west) or at the poles (north/south), providing the map user with an inadequate image of global relationships. The equator-centered world maps all distort distance relationships. This makes it look as though the shortest routes between places invariably follow lines of latitude. The map user has no idea that direct routes often go over or near the poles or across a divided ocean. A REVOLUTIONARY NEW MAP FOR PEOPLE IN THE USA
